Confirmation
First Lutheran offers a Confirmation Ministry called C.H.A.O.S. (Christ Has All Our Solutions). It is designed to supplement the Christian education and faith nurturing that parents provide at home. A youth's Confirmation journey starts the summer before 7th Grade and ends with the Affirmation of Baptism in the fall of 10th Grade.
Students begin their Confirmation journey with an incredible week
at Bible Camp at Lutherdale (Elkhorn, WI). Each June, prior to their 7th grade year, youth spend time together learning about themselves, each other and God in the great outdoors!
Among other things, Lutherdale Bible Camp:
Builds relationships among the confirmation students.
Strengthens faith by providing the opportunity to live and learn in an intentional Christian Community.
Provides faith models in the adult counselors, camp staff, church leaders and pastors.
Works on the campers’ self esteem and confidence through the following activities:
High and Low Ropes Courses, Games, Canoeing, Swimming, Crafts, Music, Experiential Bible Study, Camp Style Worship, Caring for Farm Animals and Great Food!
Year after year camp is listed as one of the students’ favorite parts of the Confirmation ministry. They often go back year after year. Confirmation Camp is so much fun! Kids don’t want to miss it!

During the school year, 7th-8th Graders attend class on Wednesday Evenings from 6:30-7:45 pm in Fellowship Hall. Learning about our relationship with God is one of the most exciting adventures we can take in life! Through large and small group activities, speakers, games, music, field trips and more we seek to help students engage their faith deeply so they grow in faith and are able to share their love of God with others.
9th Graders move more deeply into faith through a mentor relationship. Each student is paired with a confirmed FLC adult to talk about and do the life of faith together. They participate in discussions and do service projects together independently throughout the year.
In the fall of 10th grade, students upon completion of the Confirmation journey, have the opportunity to choose to Affirm their Baptism. As part of Affirming their Faith, students write a Faith Paper which reflects their relationship with God and shares their faith with others.
Retreats and Mini Missions offer students in each grade to spend some time away from the busyness of life focusing on a particular area of their faith life including decision making, being in community and serving others in faith.
Adults needed
Friendly, energetic and sometimes silly adults are needed to lead a group of six to eight Confirmation students on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:45pm (September-May). These leaders are referred to as Confirmation Guides.
Each year, FLC 9th Graders ask someone from their congregation to be their Mentor. Mentors do not have to be Bible scholars; they just have to be willing to build a relationship with a youth and share their experiences. Mentors will help the 9th Grader complete two service projects and six discussions (about 10 hours).
